Fleshly ties are temporal: Happy Father's Day

In honor of Father’s Day, we’ve collected some poignant stories of growing up with Christian Science Fathers.

To his dying day, my Dad thought the healing was just around the corner. Problem is, you never get around that damn corner. It’s like chasing a rainbow.

First Hand Experiences with Fathers & Christian Science

My father was a perfectionist, and as a kid, I could never do anything right. I think that was what appealed to me about Christian Science when I adopted it as a young woman. I was not bad, or wrong, or inadequate—instead I was perfect. Very soon, however, I found out I couldn’t demonstrate that perfection, so I was right back in the ‘guilty & bad’ trap. — Marion Cooley

Fleshly ties temporal     Jesus acknowledged no ties of the flesh. He said: “Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.” Again he asked: “Who is my mother, and who are my brethren,” im plying that it is they who do the will of his Father. We have no record of his calling any man by the name of father. He recognized Spirit, God, as the only creator, and therefore as the Father of all.
